JAZZ SATURDAYS is a free weekly live jazz concert series showcasing different area jazz musicians in each installment.

This week's musicians: TRIO MAMBO

Located in the Chapel Hill/Durham area, Trio Mambo is a Latin jazz combo that explores the Latin musics of the Americas rooted in African Diasporic traditions, with particular interest in those of Cuba and Puerto Rico. With its unique instrumentation, Trio Mambo creates their own brand of Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz, performing a variety of styles ranging from bolero and cha-cha to guaracha and guaguancó. The group features Louis Ramos on lead vocals, conga, and bongo, Nathan Mason on vibes, percussion, and backup vocals, and Alex Polydoroff on electric bass.

DURHAM JAZZ RESERVOIR HEAVY FLOW

NEA Jazz master Jamey Aebersold cancels trip to UNC-Chapel Hill.
Due to family illness Jamey Aebbersold has had to cancel his appearance as guest soloist with the UNC Jazz Studies program.

The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra

Spend an evening on Swingin' Broadway with the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra directed by Gregg Gelb. Hum, sing, tap your toes to well-known--and maybe some not-so-well-known tunes from the Broadway stage – from 1925 on.

The concert is Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 at 8pm at the Temple Theatre, 120 Carthage St., Sanford, NC

Brandon Lee, Professor of Jazz Brass at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro (UNCG). Received two degrees and an artist diploma from the Juilliard School. In addition to teaching, Brandon has built a reputable career as a performer with many jazz bands in North Carolina and New York City. Most notable bands in NYC are the Christian McBride Big Band, Aaron Diehl and Cecile McLorin Salvant, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Village Vanguard Orchestra and the Kenny Barron Quintet.
