THE DJR RX

Last night the Durham Jazz Reservoir RX worked like a charm.  The venue was perfect.  The audience was beautiful.  If I had found it necessary to struggle with getting there thru a lot of unexpected snow, I would in fact been feeling like I was back in NYC listening to the Modern Jazz Quartet live  -  JUST LIKE THE MUSICIANS PROMISED ME THEY WOULD MAKE ME FEEL!!!    It was so nice, I think we need to think about a repeat, or a couple of repeats, or a few more repeats, or....   Many thanks to all involved in helping to make music do what it does so well  -- GET US WELL!!!

More of the Durham Jazz Reservoir RX is  on schedule at Sharp Nine starting tonight Saturday, November 17, 2018,  http://www.durhamjazzworkshop.org/up-coming-concerts.html.

KIND OF BLUE, KIND OF BLUE, KIND OF BLUE !!!!

KIND OF BLUE has been around for a bunch of years,  The first time I listened to it I felt it was the best jazz album ever recorded.  The last time I listened to something from it - yesterday 10/15/2018 -my thoughts were that it is the best jazz album ever recorded.  I've often thought that it might be THE BEST ALBUM EVER RECORDED.  Current sales figures mentioned on a radio broadcast yesterday stated KIND OF BLUE still sells 5000 copies per week.  How 'bout that!!!

ABOUT THE DOMINICAN JAZZ PROJECT:
http://DominicanJazzProject.com/about
The Dominican Jazz Project began when Dominican jazz artist, Guillo Carias, invited American jazz pianist, Stephen Anderson, to perform with him at the 2014 Jazzomania Jazz Festival in Santo Domingo, DominicanRepublic, that was hosted by the Quisqueya 96.1 FM jazz radio program.  Following the concert, drummer, Guy Frómeta, invited Anderson to return to Santo Domingo to perform with his group for the Casa de Teatro Jazz Festival a few months later.  Frómeta’s group was joined by one of the nation’s finest tenor saxophonists, Sandy Gabriel. Their collective friendship grew further with that experience, and following the festival, they determined to record together.

What intrigued Anderson when he visited the Dominican Republic is that while Dominican musicians are very much at home playing Afro-Cuban/clave-based music, their traditional music also has a variety of other lesser known grooves that are not commonly played in Latin jazz today outside of the Dominican Republic. Consequently, the Dominican Jazz Project recording demonstrates a powerful fusion of native Dominican grooves, like the Mangulina, Pambiche, Ga-Ga, and the Palo together with creative jazz compositions that draw on jazz harmonies. The cast of players includes the finest jazz artists in the Dominican Republic—Gabriel, winner of the National Music Award 2003, Jazz Line, Frómeta, longtime drummer for Grammy® winning International Latin pop star, Juan Luis Guerra, as well as Guillo Carias, David Almengod, and singer/songwriter, Carlos Luís, together with American jazz artists, Stephen Anderson (Summit Records®) and Jeffry Eckels.
Thanks so much.  We hope to see many friend out to these events!

Steve
