GOOD GUITAR POUR HOUSE TUESDAY 8PM
See my post from Saturday 12/12/15. The great sounding and new to me guitar player, Logan Butler, is playing with a fusion band at The Pour House in Raleigh at 8pm Tuesday night, 12/15/2015. As I mentioned in my previous post, his performance the other night was great. Go give him a listen.

GOOD SOUNDS ON FRIDAY NIGHT
THANK YOU KOBIE!
THERE WAS SOME GOOD JAZZ GOING ON AT SHARP 9 LAST NIGHT. KOBI WATKINS
GROUPTET. "And a good time was had by all." The band was smokin'. Kobie on drums, Lovell Bradford piano, Aaron Hill saxophones , Jason Foureman bass, and Logan Butler guitar. They all came to play - AND PLAY THEY DID! Logan Butler on guitar is a nice new discovery. Kobie seems to have a gift for finding good talent and bringing it to our attention. Logan is just in his first year at UNCG, but he plays as if he's been around the guitar and good jazz for quite a while. He's playing with a fusion group in Raleigh on Tuesday. If I get anything more specific on him I'll try to get it posted.
Another job well done by a group of fine musicians. Thank you, Kobie, Lovell, Aaron, Jason, and Logan. MORE PLEASE FROM ALL OF YOU. "KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON." Ed Furtick

" Good morning. It's been a while since I've had some recommendations, but December's got them:
12/4: For those of you who've seen Kate McGarry & Keith Ganz in past Guide To Local Jazz classes, they return to Sharp Nine Friday night at 7p, in a combined GTLJ/Sharp NIne production.
12/5: Pianist Stephen Anderson & his trio--plus saxophonist Dave Finucane--appear at Sharp Nine at 8p. Stephen & Dave have great rapport & do a duo version of Dave's "Grey Blue" that is as beautiful a ballad as you'll hear.
12/12: Singer Cecile McLorin Salvant is a Don't Miss experience. She's the best young jazz singer around, with an incredible vocal range, from high to low accenting standards & songs that will become standards. She's at Duke Performances at 8p in Baldwin Auditorium.
I hope to see some of you at these performances. They will be good..."

"Keep The Vision Alive"
North Carolina Central University's Jazz Benefit Concert featuring
Branford Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo
The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Jazz Studies program is a historical and cultural landmark. We were the very first university in the state to offer a Jazz Studies degree, and the only one in the state with a fully comprehensive vocal jazz studies component. There are only two HBCUs in the country that offer a Master of Music in Jazz Studies, Howard University and NCCU!
I have had the privilege of teaching at NCCU now for ten years. We are committed to continuing our legacy of keeping swing alive! One of our most important tasks has been graduating and developing jazz musicians and educators for the next generation. NCCU Jazz Studies program students and alum are competitive and highly profiled in the music industry. They can be found touring with everyone from Prince and Gregory Porter to alums who have recorded and toured with countless other renowned artists including Betty Carter, Kim Burrell, Charles Tolliver and Branford Marsalis. Other NCCU Jazz Studies alums are working as music educators at prestigious cultural centers and jazz venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center and a host of national and international schools.
NCCU is a public university and the NCCU Jazz Studies program depends on support from the generous donations of jazz lovers. We hope you will join us as a Friend of NCCU Jazz Studies by pursuing one of the following options:
1) Please send this invite for VIP participation and flyer to five - ten people who you think will come to support NCCU Jazz, and who would enjoy a Branford Marsalis/Joey Calderazzo concert, (the NCCU big band and vocal ensemble are also performing in the concert).
2) If you can, purchase a VIP ticket for yourself. Here is the info and link.
