SATURDAY AFTERNOON JAZZ AT THE STATION
THE FOLLOWING INFO BY WAY OF MAMA JAZZ
Fw: Jazz @ The Station for Dec 17: Robert Trowers Project
From: Robbie Link <robbie@robbielink.com>
Sent: Wednesday, December 14, 2016 6:24 PM To: Elaine Crovitz, Ph.D. Subject: Jazz @ The Station for Dec 17: Robert Trowers Project
This Saturday at The Station in Carrboro - 201 East Main St
The Robert Trowers Project: Robert Trowers - trombone, Ginnae Koon - bass, and Dwayne Jordan - drums Presenting a mixture of original tunes, Jazz-styled Christmas tunes, and standards. 2:00 PM - FREE! Note: This is the last Saturday Jazz at The Station event I am booking. As you may know, I started this project last summer as a tribute both to the late Brother Yusuf Salim, but also to honor my friend and long time musical collaborator Steve Wing who made his final appearance at The Station on August 27 when we performed many of Yusuf's Sextets. A group of us continued playing with Steve at his home while he was in hospice care there and then he passed away on November 9th - a good day to die. I have organized, booked, and advertised the Jazz Saturdays entirely as a volunteer and the musicians who have performed there have done so with only a small payment guaranteed by The Station. But the very generous jazz community (you all!) has made the series both fun, exciting, and economically feasible for the performers each week. I so much appreciate all the support you have all given. Michelle Temple, the manager at The Station, has expressed an interest in keeping the series going on her own (she books all the other music at The Station) and may do so in the new year. I hope you will continue to support the series if she does. I will be passing my various contacts on to her (including this list) so hopefully she will keep you informed. Thank you all again and best wishes for this holiday season. Take care and stay warm! Robbie Link -- Robbie Link 2512 Mount Sinai Rd.
