You should enjoy the September 14, 2018 jazz concert, "A TRIBUTE TO THE MODERN JAZZ QUARTET" 8pm at Sharp Nine.  The musicians have promised to make me feel that I am at Carnegie Hall in the early 1980 timeframe enjoying the MJQ live and in person.  I've been waiting for this one!

Spread the word and get ready to start the school year off right!
Jazz drummer Thomas Taylor, guest artist Jeff “Tain” Watts, and some of the Jazz percussion alumni will present a jazz concert and fundraiser in the B.N. Duke Auditorium on the campus of North Carolina Central University on Sunday Aug. 26, at 6 p.m.. This concert will honor NCCU Alum, Grady Tate. Earlier in the afternoon, there will be music and percussion-centered workshops starting at 3 p.m.
All proceeds will go to the Jazz Studies scholarship fund. The concert is $20.00 general admission for all attendees for the day. Go to the NCCU ticket office to buy your tickets in advance (www.nccu.edu/ticket-office/index.cfm). For more information, contact Thomas Taylor in the Department of Music at North Carolina Central University.

DOUBLE GOOD DURHAM JAZZ RESERVOIR 8/10/2018

Just as expected, the Durham Jazz Reservoir  poured forth a bunch of fun!!!  I was fortunate enough to catch all of Thomas Taylor and a good portion of Eric Hirsh!!  Fortunate is indeed the word I intended to use.  Thank you to all involved in providing another great evening for music/jazz lovers here in Durham, NC. Lots more on the way  -  check the websites, calendars, etc.  I'm sure you've been able to detect my special anticipation of a great  happening on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Sharp Nine.  This MODERN JAZZ QUARTET REVISITED is going to be SMOKIN'!  If you are  out of the normal Durham Jazz Reservoir  geographic area, it might be advantageous to plan on making a special visit to the Durham Jazz Reservoir, Friday. September 14, 2018!  "KEEP ON KEEPIN'  ON!"

GET YOUR EARS AND SOUL IN GEAR - GREAT CDs

Eric Hirsh - Distillation,  Thomas Taylor - The Seeker,   Kobie Watkins -  Movement.  I've listened to the tunes on these CDs more than once.  I can say that my enjoyment of each CD has increased with each session.  I recommend these recordings as desired items for your recorded music collection.  Check the websites and calendars for info on release parties - what I know about at this point - both Eric and Thomas are scheduled for CD release parties on Friday, August 10, 2018.  Might be time for a double header.
