I had a good time yesterday 10/20/2015, guest hosting on WNCU 90.7FM/WNCU.org. I'm trying to find a way to make the audio mp3 file available here on this blog. If anyone knows how to do that and would care to help me out, please let me know, edfurtick@gmail.com. Thanks.

MONDAY NIGHT JAZZ IN DURHAM, NC
THE SHED provides an opportunity to continue hearing some good jazz music. If you want to feel a range of jazz approaches check out Ernest Turner doing sessions at THE SHED 8-9pm tonight and enjoy the jam session that follows. If you play, bring your instrument and join in, You might even hear a number inspired by one of my long time ago jazz experiences. I finally was able to be in the right place at the right time and the musicians were kind enough to play "ED's Big Night Out". Composed by one of our local jazz guitar players, James Gilmore. It was very enjoyable. Thanks James. I hope it catches on.
Don't forget upcoming events. Oct. 20th Lenora Helms, November 22nd NCCU Benefit Concert.

I CERTAINLY HOPE THIS GREAT JAZZ COMMUNITY WILL SHOW OUR SUPPORT! LET'S MAKE IT STANDING ROOM ONLY! SPREAD THE WORD.
While I'm at it, here's my nudging for the support of jazz in Durham and environs. THIS AREA IS A JAZZ OASIS! The opportunities to hear great live jazz are mightyful and just keep on getting better, and better. I am amazed when jazz performances at B N Duke are only half full. I am amazed when performances at Baldwin don't have folks waiting to see if someone doesn't show and there might be an extra ticket available. I am amazed when there's still three or four tables unoccupied for a great performance at BEYU, or Sharp 9, or Cuban Revolution, or THE SHED, etc. As listeners/jazz lovers we have "such a deal" in Durham. Sometimes it's even for ZERO $$$! And yes, I am still amazed when people who enjoy jazz don't have WNCU 90.7 on all the buttons on their radio and WNCU.org streaming on their computer 24/7. Durham and environs jazz musicians (veteran and newcomer), jazz educators (public/private, high school/college) and venue operators "KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON." They bring us lots and lots of good stuff - old/new and otherwise. Jazz organizations such as ART OF COOL keeps pushing the boundaries. There is a lot going on. Please support JAZZ and urge those with whom you come in contact to do the same. It's good for your soul and you may just help bring joy to someone else along the way! Ed Furtick

MANY, MANY GOOD SOUNDS FOR US TO ENJOY - RIP PHIL WOODS
https://www.wbgo.org/internal/mediaplayer/?podcastID=6843 If you can go to this link you'll be able to hear an interview with the great sax player that was recorded some years back. Or just go to WBGO.org and you shold be able to track it down. You can also find a great piece of Phil Woods fine work at the end of Paul Simon's "Have A Good Time" recording. (That may be one reason why that song by Paul Simon has been one of my guidelines for living for a number of years.)
1ST THURSDAY JAZZ BEYU 7--9PM MICHAEL JONES
The title line means show up for lots of good sounds, a bunch of good fun, provided by some fine musicians. Who could ask for more?
