LAST NIGHT GET TOGETHER

Folks, enjoyed meeting you and sharing a good night of Nina's music.  There may be less than six degrees of separation to a Westchester connection.  When you get a chance, please feel free to send me an email, edfurtick@gmail.com. and maybe we'll find some other connections.  Thanks for sharing the berries.  Ed & Ellen

NINA SIMONE STUFF

If you like Nina and you're anywhere near Durham, NC tomorrow night check out Larry Q Draughn and his group at Sharp Nine Gallery.  You may still be able to get tickets for this Friday, April 29 concert by going to the Sharp Nine web site.  Last month Larry Q and company celebrated the music of another North Carolina jazz musician, Max Roach.  NICE!  Tomorrow night ought to be another winner.

OTHER STUFF

Today would be my dad turning 111 if he was still alive. He was a great guy who was happiest when he was helping somebody! He lived to be 99 and for that I am very thankful. So taking my lead from Ira Wiggins, rather than a moment of silence to salute my father, I'd like to give him some lasting applause. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD.

TRU BORN & ERIC MEYER TOMORROW NIGHT 4/9/2016

Details
Tru began playing guitar at the age of 12. At 13, he received a scholarship to the St. Louis Conservatory of Music. He began teaching at the age of 14. Tru entered the Berklee College of Music in Boston MA, earning a degree and becoming one of the youngest members of the faculty a year after graduation.

After three years on the faculty at Berklee, he left Boston and moved to Brooklyn, New York. While in New York, he became a member of the Black Rock Coalition, which led to alliances with such cutting edge musicians as Vernon Reid and Michelle Ndegeocello. At the same time, he began working in the New York jazz scene with such artists as Oliver Lake and Ronald Shannon Jackson.

During this period Anthony began teaching privately and honing his craft as a songwriter, placing songs for producer Andre Harrell on Atlantic Records, and director Spike Lee for Columbia records.

While working in New York, he became involved with performing and recording projects with Peter Gabriel, Joan Baez, Janis Ian, and Cassandra Wilson. These alliances took him all over the world, on television and on various recordings.
Eric Meyer on bass and Tru Born on guitar and vocals at the West End Wine Bar, Main St., Durham, 9 - midnight.
