KOBIE WATKINS KICKSTARTER
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1866416654/journey-with-the-kobie-watkins-grouptet Many of you already know Kobie Watkins as an accomplished jazz music person. Kobie's got a project he's working on and if you check out the above link you can gain info on what it's about. You can check out Kobie's work on YouTube. He runs a great jam session every Wednesday at BEYU Caffe here in Durham, NC, providing an opportunity for newcomers and more seasoned folks to get in some live performance time. If you've been looking for a worthwhile jazz project to support I think you'll find this one worthy of your consideration. I feel good about supporting Kobie in this endeavor. If you're in the Durham vicinity on a Wednesday evening starting around 7pm and running till about 9pm or so check out the session, you'll enjoy.
GREAT START FOR FEBRUARY JAZZ IN DURHAM
A bunch of good jazz in Durham, NC last week. Wednesday night jam session at the BEYU Caffe was rockin'. Had a couple of folks I hadn't come across before - Baritone sax player and Alto sax player. Thursday night at BEYU was the Michael Jones Trio - the guys were excellent as always. Saturday's performance by the NCCU Jazz Vocal organization - Lenora Helm's folks - at the Hayti Heritage Center was smokin'. The vocal performers were on; the instrumental musicians were on; and the audience was on. I hope somebody makes a video/cd of that event available for purchase and let's us know about it. Sunday Brunch at BEYU featured a jammin' duo that turned into a great quartet gig and the folks played some of my favorite tunes. My appreciation to everybody involved in the live jazz that I was able to experience these past several days. To the Durham/Triangle jazz community, please keep it coming. You are doing a great job.
