Saxophonist Shaquim Muldrow commands the stage with a classic tenor sound and a musical sensitivity beyond his years. Equally at home playing ballads or uptempo swing, he is gaining prominence as one of the young musicians responsible for the revival of jazz and swing music in the Triangle. Joined at the SHED by vocalist Autumn Rainey, pianist Andrew Berinson, bassist Gen Palmer, and drummer Theous Jones, this will be an evening of jazz sure to please the most discerning of ears. Thomas Taylor August 7 at 9:59pm   Put it on your calendar. Y'all have 3 weeks to get ready for this great event! There are going to be some great workshops before the concert. Each of us will give a 50 minute workshop on a variety to things. Here is the order: 2:00 in BN Duke New Band Room- Thomas Taylor will discuss “Hearing loss and the effects of NOT protecting your ears, 5 daily habits to protect your hearing”. 2:30 in BN Duke Old Band Room- Larry Q. Draughn Jr. will talk about the “Transmutation of Black American popular rhythm from the swing era till now”. 3:00 in BN Duke New Band Room- Brandon Rich will discuss “5 ways to get your vibes singing”, different techniques to improve your melodic and rhythmic lines on keyboard instruments. 3:30 in BN Duke Old Band Room- Theous Jones will discuss “Musicians & Nutrition- Routine, Set the Mood, & Groove”. Health tips on being healthy on and off stage. You will get basic stretches and exercises that can be done at home, in a hotel room, even in your office at work. 4:00 in BN Duke New Band Room- Carl Allen will discuss “Owning the Music and the Process”.

Give the Drummer Some Benefit   Harris, Marsha <marsha.harris@nccu.edu>   North Carolina Central University PO Box 19405 1801 Fayetteville Street Durham, NC 27707 June 22, 2016 Dear Mr. Furtick: August is right around the corner and I hope you are able to support and attend the 4th annual “Give the Drummer Some” Benefit concert happening on Sunday August 28, 2016in Durham, NC.  We will have workshops from 2:00-5:00pm and the silent auction begins at 5:00pm, and the evening concert begins at 6:00pm. North Carolina Central University has a long history of developing world class musicians.  Drum legend, Grady Tate is an alumni and will be honored this year. He has been such a great role model for the NCCU family.  In the last 25 years, we have had graduates who have become very successful performers in many cities throughout the US. We ask that you consider supporting our cause. Funds from this program will be used to expand and enhance our existing jazz programs. Drummer Larry Q. Draughn brings his trio to the Shed, featuring pianist Chris Pattishall and bassist Christian Dashiell. 

Durham native Pattishall, recently named by Wynton Marsalis as one of the "Top 5 jazz payers under 30 to watch" is a mainstay of NYC clubs like Smalls and Dizzy's and a "must see" performer.

The following are my comments  DO NOT MISS THIS!!!  I had the pleasure of hearing these folks at Sharp 9 on this past Saturday, July 30, 2016.  THEY SMOKED!!!  Being in this Durham & environs jazz reservoir and being able to catch this kind of quality performance on a Tuesday night for $7.00 is worthy of a special thanks to all involved with making it happen!!!
