More good jazz in the Durham Jazz Reservoir! Frankie Alexander and her folks will be laying down their usual tasteful delivery of good sounding/feeling jazz tonight in the courtyard at Brightleaf Square. Start is 7PM! Nice way to start any holiday weekend.

JAZZ IN DURHAM TODAY 5/5/2019 -- Ben Palmer Trio at Goorsha on Main St. Ben, Noah, Clarence Caught their sound up the street a couple of times ago. Nice way to ease out of Sunday. Also, check West End Wine Bar 4-6pm. I believe this is Lou Bongo-s Sunday to be there with Latin Jazz. Edward Furtick, Sr.

I often make the comment that I feel blessed to be located here in such a great place for jazz/other music/ and the arts in general. Many of my memories are associated with music. I am focused today on memories of my dad, Edward Furtick, Sr. Today April 28, 2019 would have been his 114th birthday. He passed away at age 99. I had the pleasure of hearing the NCCU Jazz Big Band in concert last night. I am still full of good memories of dad taking me to hear Count Basie for the first time at the APOLLO. I also feel good when I hear or think about the spiritual, "If I Can Help Somebody". My father would sing/hum this song every time we were together. Good thoughts of a good man - HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!
