For me, activities surrounding the NEA 2016 Jazz Masters Tribute/Awards fall into the categories of " A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL" and "CATCH ALL YOU CAN". The up close and personal session with the 2016 Jazz Masters on Sunday was great. It was well attended, but not crowded. Lots of picture taking opportunities, handshaking, brief conversations, and thank you statements from those of us in the audience and the honorees themselves. We got to meet all four of the current inductees plus other Jazz Masters including Jimmy Heath. We even had a somewhat extended conversation with Jason Moran. The interactions definitely qualified as being part of "Keep On Keepin' On".
The tribute ceremony and concert on Monday was great. It was very tastefully done and allowed us to hear performances by many of our seasoned favorites and several new to us folks who will probably become favorites.
An added attraction was being in the company of longtime good friends.
