North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will host the 26TH Annual Jazz Festival from Thursday, April 14 through Thursday, April 21. The festival will include a week of musical entertainment including concerts, lectures and workshops by remarkable Jazz artists.
This year’s lineup will include of a jazz photo exhibit, clinics and lectures by accomplished musicians from the Triangle region of North Carolina and beyond. A series of concerts and workshops will also take place. All events are free and open to the public except the Friday and Saturday night concerts, which require tickets.
The festival will kick off with a jam session at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 14, at Beyu Caffe, 335 W. Main St. in Durham.
Renowned jazz vocalist Mary Stallings will accompany the NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble in concert at 8 p.m. Friday, April 15, in the B.N. Duke Auditorium on campus.
At 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, the NCCU Jazz Ensemble will perform a special concert with international Jazz artists “Sax Appeal,” featuring Javon Jackson, Jimmy Heath, Gary Bartz and Donald Harrison.
The Vocal Jazz Summit and Workshops take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, featuring workshops for middle and high school choral directors. Jazz vocalist Jeri Brown will teach a master class at 1 p.m. in B.N. Duke Auditorium, followed by a 7 p.m. evening concert with Brown and NCCU Jazz Studies student vocal soloists.

– NCCU Student Jazz Combos concert featuring jazz studies student instrumentalist, at7 p.m., Monday, April 18, in B.N. Duke Auditorium.
– African American Music Trail Panel Discussion starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, in B.N. Duke Auditorium.
– A jazz music listening session, titled “Straight No Chaser,” with Robert Trowers begins at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 21, in Stanford L. Warren Library, 1201 Fayetteville St., Durham.
– Music clinic and lecture featuring jazz musicians Javon Jackson and Jimmy Heath atnoon, Saturday, April 16, in B.N. Duke Auditorium.
– NCCU Student Jazz Combos concert featuring jazz studies student instrumentalist, at7 p.m., Monday, April 18, in B.N. Duke Auditorium.

The NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform the opening concert for Mary Stallings on Friday night and the NCCU Jazz Ensemble will play the opening concert for Sax Appeal on Saturday night.
