CATCH ALL YOU CAN

A jazz fan in Durham, NC 40 years ago might have felt that choices of places to go to hear live jazz were somewhat limited.  "the times they are a changing".  Jazz fans in Durham and environs are in the midst of a great reservoir of talent. The talent can be experienced in lots of settings  - festivals, clubs, jam sessions, picnics, live and recorded radio/tv,  university events, etc.  I'm an advocate of catching all you can.  I've been able to enjoy many outstanding performances.  The price for lots of these happenings has generally been reasonable and often FREE.  So right now, as the weather gets better and more events keep coming up, let me say THANK YOU to all involved in keeping jazz alive and well.

http://locavorejazz.weebly.com/peters-blog is Peter Burke's blog with lots of info on what's happening.

WNCU. 90.7fm, streaming wncu.org, 24 hours a day does a jazz calendar.  This station continues to play great jazz.  A great overnight addition is a syndicated(?) couple of hours, 5-7am I think with Clifford Brown, Jr. as DJ.  (I love folks who are grown and still identify themselves as Jr.).

Please feel free to comment on things that you know are happening so that we can all enjoy being here and now.  It will be great if we can enhance everybody's enjoyment of Jazz and accomplish that  keeping in mind my objective of "no heavy lifting".  "Keep On Keepin' On".

Ellen, thanks so much for everything.

Edward (Ed) Furtick, Jr.
